As a Licensed Professional Counselor and Registered Play Therapist, Melynda partner’s with adults, children, and couples. As a Certified School Counselor, she supports the home/school connection.


Humanistic, Person-Centered, Strengths Based 

Therapy

Melynda focuses on a person’s strengths to help them overcome their challenges. She uses a variety of humanistic and person-centered therapeutic approaches to fit the needs of each individual client.

Individuals

Melynda looks to Alfred Adler, Carl Jung, and Carl Rogers to guide her theoretical perspective and foster the therapeutic alliance with her clients. Connecting Attachment Theory to techniques such as CBT, DBT, Sandtray, IFS, Flash and EMDR, Melynda helps her clients learn coping skills, heal from traumatic experiences, become change agents within their own lives, and find a sense of contentment.

Couples

When Melynda works with couples, she focuses on helping them grow in connection, and learn the communication skills needed to collaborate through and enjoy a shared life. Using The Gottman Method and the the Gottman Connect program, Melynda supports couples in all different stages of their commitment to one another.

Children

As a Nationally Registered Play Therapist, Melynda partners with children of all ages, birth to late adolescence, and their caregivers to address challenges as a team. She is trained in Child-Centered Play Therapy, Child/Parent Relationship Therapy, Adlerian Play Therapy, Sandtray, and EMDR for young clients. Melynda takes care that your child’s therapeutic and developmental needs guide their individual treatment plan. Regular meetings with Parents are an important component of each child’s treatment.

Parents

Melynda collaborates with parents and caregivers as they navigate the challenges of raising their babies, children, teens and adult children. She helps parents make sense of their child’s emotional and developmental needs to effectively address misbehavior and enhance a stronger bond and sense of connection within the parent/child relationship, and the household or family unit.

School

As a former and Certified Elementary School Educator, Parents As Teachers Parent Educator (birth through pre-k) and Certified School Counselor K-12, Melynda is familiar with the importance of a thriving home/school connection. Melynda partners with her child and adolescent clients’ school family to help support shared goals and objectives. Melynda is also available to collaborate with and coach teaching staff in how to use effective techniques to enhance social-emotional learning and reduce misbehavior in their classrooms.
